The Right to Shower
The right to dignity.
Humanity. Innovation. Collaboration.
It's fun to talk about what's trending in the real estate market. Are sellers on top, or is it buyers? Can brass and silver fixtures be mixed? Is an open floor plan still popular, or is having private space more ideal?
The reality is that there are bigger issues - much bigger issues - that warrant our attention and conversation.
Right to Shower gives homeless people access to hygiene services. And respect.
If an unforeseen issue has ever led to water being temporarily turned off in your home, you've experienced that sudden realization of how easy it is to take for granted an otherwise everyday activity like showering.g.
But for those who don't have a place to call home, showering — or any other type of hygiene practice — is often impossible.
The aptly named "Right to Shower" was created to address the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's estimate that, on any given day, over 550,000 Americans experience homelessness and a lack of access to clean, safe showering spaces.
In 2019, the brand kicked off their commitment to ensure that everyone has access to a shower every day by donating 100% of their product's profits.
"We believe access to cleanliness is a fundamental human right along with the hope, dignity, joy, and strength that can come from a single shower," reads a press release from Unilever.
"Right now, 550,000 people are experiencing homelessness and have limited or no access to the everyday services many of us take for granted, including a shower.
Right to Shower is working to fix that."
